COTTAGE GROVE - Dan Fix passed away on Wednesday, July 14, 1999 after a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer. He was born on October 26, 1947 in Madison, the son of Richard and Eleanor Fix. He lived his life in the Madison area, graduating from Madison Central High School and going into the Army from there. He was honorably discharged from the army after a medical illness in 1968 and was later disabled in 1974 from employment at Methodist Hospital. Dan married Alice Hetzel on January 25, 1975 at St. Paul's Catholic Center. He was blessed with thre children, Kim, Kevin, and Toni; his family was the love of his life. He is survived by his family; and two sisters, Roberta (Ron) Otis and Sue (Vic) Calcarel; his mother-in-law, Josie Hetzel; three brothers-in-law, Fred (Helga) Hetzel, Jerry (Pat) Hetzel, and Joe (Diane) Hetzel; a sister-in-law, Mary Lou Sinkule; and a special sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Marge and Tom Brantmeyer "who made the bad days better and the good days the best." Dan was preceded in death by his parents and a brother-in-law, Anthony Hetzel. A memorial visitation will be held on Friday, July 16, 1999 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m at the GUNDERSON FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive. Burial will be held at Sunset Memory Gardens. The family would like to extend their sincere thanks to all the "friends" at the VA Hospital, who over the many years were there for Dan and us, especially Dr. Schoemaker, Dr. Harari, Marion, Kay, Donna, Jim, John, Tom, Evie, Andy, Pat, Linda, Collen, Lisa, Scott, Terri, Kris, Berry, Betsy, Bob and to anyone we have forgotten your name, but not how much you touched his short life. A truer soldier will never be found.
