Obituary: Beda Mackin

MADISON/MONTELLO - Miss Beda Roberta Mackin, age 96, formerly of 1102 Hickory St., Madison, died peacefully on Thursday, November 13, 1997 at the Montello Care Center in Montello, Wisconsin. She was born on July 21, 1901 in Glen Flora, Wisconsin. Beda taught at Madison Central High School from 1928 until 1966, she retired Chairman of the Social Studies Department. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma Society International - Alpha Chapter - Madison, A.A.U.W., Wisconsin Alumni Association, State Historical Society, and First Baptist Church of Madison since 1913. She was baptized in the Summer of 1910 in Ladysmith, Wisconsin and graduated from the University of Wisconsin, B.A. in 1923 and M.A. in 1934. She is survived by a nephew, Tom (Kathy) Mackin of Berlin, Wisconsin; five nieces, Mary Alice Judson (Jim) Forbes of Bethpage, New York, Bernice Mackin (Richard) Burris of Luxembourg, Wisconsin, Miriam Mackin (Gordon) Bentley of Montello, Emily Gilmore (Richard) Goheen of Tacoma, Washington and Roberta Gilmore (Austin) Post of Vashon, Washington and many grand and great-grandnieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, William M. Mackin in 1977; her mother, Bernice (Roberts) Mackin in 1963; two brothers, Hugh F. in 1971 and George E. Mackin in 1995; two sisters, Emily E. Judson in 1980 and Alice E. (Gilmore) Gibbs in 1989; and three nieces, Helen (Judson) Muir in 1985, Grace (Gilmore) McGinnis in 1996 and Elizabeth (Gilmore) Heitmann in 1997. Funeral services will be held on Monday, November 17, 1997 at 12:00 noon at FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH, 518 Franklin Ave. in Madison with Reverend Mark Clinger officiating. FITCH-LAWRENCE-SANFILLIPPO FUNERAL HOME is assisting the family. Burial will be in Boardman Cemetery in Boardman, Wisconsin. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Beda Mackin Memorial Fund, First Baptist Church - Madison.
