MADISON - Harold "Gus" Pollock, age 81, died on Friday, February 12, 1993, in a local nursing home. He was born on October 18, 1911 in Whitewater. He was a 1943 graduate of UW-Whitewater with a degree in Business Education. Gus worked as a teacher in Slinger (1934-1935), Neenah ((1935-36), Madison Central (1936-1964), and LaFollette (1962-1977). He also coached many sports including football, baseball, volleyball and golf, and within those years won numerous conference and state championships in both football and baseball. On March 28, 1981, Gus was inducted into the Wisconsin Football Coaches Hall of Fame and on June 2, 1982, was inducted into the Madison Sports Hall of Fame. He was also one of the Founders of the Madison 4-Lakes League Program. Gus was a U.S. Navy Veteran of World War II in the Pacific Theatre, and was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church. Gus was a 32nd degree Mason, a member of the Masonic Blue Lodge of Whitewater, the Scottish Rite, the Zor Shrine, and the Madison Elks Lodge No. 410. Survivors include his wife, Edna; two children, Mary Ellen (Robert W.) Lee of Waunakee, and Richard (Pamela) Pollock of Plymouth, Minnesota; six grandchildren, Lori, Tami, Keri, and Jami Lee, and Bradley and Thomas Pollock; two brothers, Howard (Grace) of Milwaukee, and Wilfred (Marion) of Dousman, Wisconsin; a sister, Helen Mittlestaedt of Cedarburg, Wisconsin; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Donald, Hollis, and Kenneth; and a sister, Evelyn. Funeral services will be held at the GUNDERSON FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, February 15, 1993. Reverend John C. Piper will officiate. Burial will follow at Highland Memory Gardens. Friends may call from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 14, 1993, at the funeral home, where the Madison Elks Lodge No. 410 will have services at 3:00 p.m.
